The Ange Postecoglou-led Celtic team knew only a win at Motherwell will keep them at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and that was what they did exactly. They were able to secure a convincing win at the expense of the home team.

Celtic opened the floodgates of goals in the 28th minute through Israeli star LielAbadaand they were able to double their lead three minutes later through Australian national team player Tom Rogic. Rogic was able to score the first of his two goals shortly after the opener from the abovementioned Abada. Rogic added his second goal of the game on the stroke of half-time to secure the points for Celtic at the end of the first half. The two goals from Rogic ensured that Celtic ended the first 45 minutes with a 3-0 lead. They went on to score one more goal in the second half to make it a more emphatic victory thereby sending a form message about their title charge to the rest of the league. New signing Daizen Maeda was the recipient of the fourth Celtic goal in the 71st minute.

The big win over Motherwell ensured that Celtic moved four points clear of defending champions Rangers on the Scottish Premiership table, but the holders were able to cut the deficit to one point thanks to their 5-0 home win over Hearts.

Rangers had led the league since the start of the season before they were usurped by Celtic last week Wednesday after their 3-0 win over the holders in the Scottish Premiership. The win gave Celtic a one-point lead over Rangers.
